After a twenty-year hiatus, composer and lyricist Kathleen Russo woke up one morning with a song in her head. That wasn’t unusual. As a veteran of the NYC indie music scene in the Seventies, she had written scores of songs. As life took a turn that included kids and a career, she wrote dozens more. But that day, with that song in her head, Kathleen didn’t pick up pen and paper. Technology had given wing to Kathleen and her music, helping her to both create new works and begin to produce her extensive collection of songs.
Kathleen’s music is not easy to classify. Influences—from Dave Brubeck and Joni Mitchell to Johann Sebastian Bach—are as diverse as the subjects from which she draws inspiration. “Discord” is Kathleen’s response to the war in Ukraine and political tension. “Pacific Kaleidoscope” is her attempt to capture the music of a sunset. "When We Were Young" is a tribute to a friend with Alzheimer’s. “Better Angels” rises from the hopes she has for mankind.
Kathleen is grateful to have returned to creating music and for the opportunity to reach a wide audience. She is delighted to share with you the work of her lifetime.
